Competition - March 2024
Just in the nick of time I managed to submit an entry to this competition. I was'nt going to go ahead but thought, life is too short so why not. I submitted 'The Daydream' which is Pastel on Pastelmat paper and the size is 40 x 30 cm . Unfortunately my picture wasnt selected.
Competition - February 2024
This is a prestigous event run every year which is open to artists worldwide. Since its inception in 2008, DSWF Wildlife Artist of the Year has raised just under £2 million to benefit their conservation work across Africa and Asia.I entered in 2022 and my 'Captive Dragon' Portrait was one of the finalists in the online exhibitions.
Unfortunately my two entries did not get accepted - 'Radiant Soul' my Orangutan portrait, which was a challenge to portray the fur (colour and the amount of hairs)and 'Hope' My little baby Iberian Lynx portrait. I wanted to represent Spain, where I live, by producing this portrait.I chose the Iberian Lynx as a subject because it is on the endangered species list and wanted to represent something that was native of Spain, the Iberian Peninsula, where I have been living for 24 years. The babies are actually called Kits. In the 20th century, the Iberian lynx population had declined because of overhunting, poaching, fragmentation of suitable habitats, and the population decline of its main prey species, the European rabbit. By the turn of the 21st century, the Iberian lynx was on the verge of extinction, as only 94 individuals survived in two isolated subpopulations in Andalusia in 2002. Conservation measures have been implemented since then, which included improving habitat, restocking of rabbits, translocating, reintroducing and monitoring Iberian lynxes. By 2012, the population had increased to 326 individuals and recently, 1,668 in May of 2023.
Society News - January 2024
So as 2023 was drawing to an end, I decided it was time to join a new art society, so after a it of research I came across a lovely society concentrating on pastel artists. I applied on New Years Eve and was accepted as an Associate member the following day. I'm very excited at the prospect on entering the monthly Get Dusty competitions, which will, I'm sure keep me on my toes!
